Band Director's Talk Shop-Proactive Classroom Management

I was recently contacted by the Band Director's Talk Shop website to be a contributing author.
Cool huh?

I thought a post on Proactive Classroom Management in the beginning of the year might be helpful to other directors. It is something I present clinics on and feel very passionate about helping other teachers with. So, instead of a new post I give you my first unofficial publication!

Jenn Bock

Jenn Bock been the Director of Bands at Poston Junior High School in Mesa, AZ for 9 years. Under her direction the band program at Poston has grown in both numbers and in quality. The Poston Bands consistently receive top honors at area and state concert band festivals. In 2010 the Poston Concert Band was the “Top Entrant” in the HSBDNA National Online Concert Band Competition. The Concert Band was an Honored Performance at the 2011 AMEA Conference. They received the highest rating, Superior with Distinction at the ABODA State Concert Festival in both 2015 and 2016, one of only two ensembles to receive this ratings in the two years the festival has occurred.

In 2014 Mrs. Bock was honored to be the recipient of KTVK3’s Silver Apple Teacher Award. She is passionate about working with young musicians and enjoys conducting local honor bands. In 2012, she conducted the White Mountain Region JHS Honor Band and the Mesa Public Schools Elementary Honor Band and in 2016 was the clinician for the Southern Arizona 7th Grade Honor Band in Tucson. Mrs. Bock has been an adjudicator for the ABODA JHS Area Concert Festivals for the past four years. She has also presented sessions on FUNdamentals for young bands and Classroom Management at the AMEA State In-Service Conference and for local school district music teachers.

Jenn has served as the chair for the AMEA 7th grade All-State Band and on the ABODA Board as both Secretary and VP of ES/JHS Band Activities. As a flautist Jenn has performed with the Desert Echoes Flute Project and the Arizona Wind Symphony. She has her B.A. in Music Education from Montclair State University, NJ and is currently working towards her Masters in Music Education at Arizona State University.
